Call for abstracts (4 February, 2019) for a themed ReN symposium on CLIL as an Instructional Practic

In collaboration with the Australian Federation of Modern Language Teachers’ Associations (AFMLTA), the ReN will contribute a special symposium as part of the 22nd AFTMLTA International Languages Conference (7-9 July, 2019, Hobart, Australia). This biennial conference is aimed at language teachers, language teacher educators, and language education researchers. The Australian language education community has become increasingly interested in CLIL’s potential for mainstream education in the last 5-7 years, building on research from Europe. For information on the main conference see: https://www.afmlta.asn.au/content/2019-afmlta-conference

The theme for the ReN symposium will be “CLIL as an instructional practice”. This could include, for example, research focused on pedagogy, teacher knowledge, student experiences, and research to strengthen collaborative work between language and content specialists.

The symposium will comprise 3-5 presentations of approximately 20 min each, followed by discussion of implications for how our research network can continue to move forward building this work. To submit a proposal, please https://www.afmlta.asn.au/content/2019-afmlta-conference for the submission guidelines and link.

IMPORTANT - When submitting, please use either:

“AILA CLIL REN SYMPOSIUM” (to only be considered for inclusion in the conference program if the abstract is selected for the symposium)

or

“AILA CLIL REN SYMPOSIUM or STANDALONE PAPER” (to also be considered for inclusion in the main conference program, if not selected for the symposium)

as your “key words” in the online submission process.

Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of relevance to the symposium theme, details of the data used and/or theoretical framing, relevance for the expected target audience.

Decisions will be made by 28 February, 2019.
